Pentagon officials will testify before the House Armed Services Committee Tuesday morning on the U.S. military’s posture in the Western Hemisphere and potential national security challenges.

Among the witnesses are U.S. Southern Command Chief Gen. Francis L. Donovan, U.S. Northern Command Chief Gen. Gregory Guillot and Joseph Humire, the acting assistant secretary of Defense for homeland defense and the Americas.

The hearing comes after President Trump announced his new “Shield of the Americas” initiative, revamping his war on drugs and cartels, and as the U.S. military continues operations in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific — including strikes on alleged drug boats and amid rising tensions with Ecuador and Cuba.
