Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and House GOP leaders will speak with reporters Tuesday morning as Republicans in the lower chamber push their Senate colleagues to pass President Trump‘s Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act.

The legislation would require Americans to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote and present a valid ID in order to cast ballots. House Republicans, who passed the bill last month, have threatened to block other measures until the SAVE America Act becomes law. The move follows a similar warning from Trump.

The press conference also comes as the party navigates rising gas prices sparked by the Middle East conflict, messaging ahead of November‘s midterm elections and Democrats pressing for reforms to the Department of Homeland Security amid the partial shutdown.
