President Trump said he would “probably” be able to make deals with Democrats should they take back majorities in Congress — but warned he would also work to block their agenda.
“I’ll be a block. I’ll end up being a blocker. I’ll block all of their bad stuff for two years,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham on “The Ingraham Angle.”
“It won’t be the same, but I’ll be a blocker. What can I tell you? And probably be able to make deals with them,” he continued.
When asked by Ingraham if he will campaign harder than he ever has before November’s midterms, Trump said no.
“The hardest I ever campaigned [was] because I had to win,” the president said. “I took four months, no empty days, no empty hours. I made speeches all day.”
When asked if the upcoming midterms were just as important as his presidential bid because of their potential impact on his legacy, Trump said, “It’s never as important.”
“I’m campaigning for other people,” he said.
The interview comes as Trump is galvanizing Republicans in Dallas, Texas, for the party’s midterm convention.
Trump told reporters last week that he will spend the final 30 days before November’s midterm elections campaigning for candidates in 35 competitive races. The president also said he would travel to Alaska to campaign for incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan (R), who is facing an uphill reelection bid.
