Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R), who is also now President Trump’s special envoy to Greenland, said Tuesday that the Trump administration does not aim “to conquer anybody.”

“Look, the United States has always been a welcoming party. We don’t go in there trying to conquer anybody and trying to — you know — take over anybody’s country. We say, ‘Listen, we represent liberty, we represent economic strength, we represent protection,’” Landry told Fox News’s Griff Jenkins on “The Will Cain Show.”

“Look, no one knows that better than Louisiana. My family has been in Louisiana for over 300 years. We’ve lived under more flags than anyone living in the continental United States over the history of America. We ended up settling under the United States of America’s flag, and for that, Louisiana has been so much better,” he added.

Denmark’s government responded to Trump’s naming of Landry as the new special envoy to Greenland on Monday, calling it “completely unacceptable.”

“President Trump’s announcement about the appointment of a special envoy to Greenland – and in particular its statements about the purpose hereby – is completely unacceptable,” Danish foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said Monday in a Facebook post, which was translated by the social platform.

“That’s why we are now convening the US ambassador to the Department of State for a discussion.”

Landry was named by Trump on Sunday as his special envoy to Greenland, a territory owned by Denmark that Trump previously sought to acquire for the United States.

Shortly before President Trump’s second inauguration in January, Landry backed Trump’s push to acquire Greenland.

“President Donald J. Trump is absolutely right! We need to ensure that Greenland joins the United States. GREAT for them, GREAT for us! Let’s get it done!” Landry said in a post on X at the time.
