Tech mogul Elon Musk poured $158 million into a key super PAC backing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s (R) Senate run as part of his push to keep Republican majorities in Congress.
Musk was the single donor to Texas PAC — a political action committee backing Paxton’s run — in the third quarter, according to new federal election filings. The Texas Republican is in a razor-thin race with Democrat James Talarico for the Senate seat currently held by GOP Sen. John Cornyn.
Federal Election Commission filings show Musk gave $75 million on Sept. 9 to the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), which then disbursed the cash to Texas PAC the following day.
On Sept. 23, Musk gave another $83 million to SLF, which disbursed the same amount to Texas PAC on Sept. 24, records showed. The SLF is backed by Senate Republican leadership.
Axios first reported of the disbursements from SLF to Texas PAC.
The Musk-backed America PAC has also spent $7.5 million so far this year to support Paxton and oppose Talarico, per new filings.
Musk has various ties to Texas, managing several business ventures in the Lone Star State.
Starbase, the SpaceX industrial complex, is located in Texas and became an incorporated city last year. Musk’s tunnel company, The Boring Company, is based in San Antonio, and he is also developing a semiconductor and AI compute facility in Grimes County, Texas.
Despite previously suggesting he would pull back his political involvement, Musk is the biggest known donor of the 2026 midterms.
The New York Times previously reported the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has given about $366 million in total this cycle.
“If Democrats take control of Washington and win key gubernatorial and attorney general races this November, then America risks becoming a socialist, woke and borderless country,” America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo said in a statement to the Times, which was confirmed by The Hill earlier this week.
“These robust investments have allowed the GOP apparatus to get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history,” Romeo added.
