Former President Clinton will appear for a closed-door deposition before the House Oversight Committee on Friday, a day after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s gave her testimony amid the committee’s probe of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The hearings are being held in Chappaqua, N.Y. Both of the Clintons appear in files tied to Epstein that were released by the Justice Department under a law signed by President Trump last year. The couple denies any knowledge of the disgraced financier’s crimes.
The former president and first lady agreed to testify in New York after the committee, with the support of some Democratic members, threatened to lead contempt of Congress proceedings against them for defying the terms of a subpoena.
The Clintons had called for a public hearing and accused the chair of adding last-minute terms for their depositions.
Epstein visited the White House several times during the Clinton administration, according to visitor logs, and the ex-president appeared in flight logs on his private jets after leaving office.
Photos included in the DOJ’s document releases show the former president next to women on a plane and in a hot tub. Another picture depicts Clinton and Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell in a pool together.
“Traveling on Epstein’s plane was not worth the years of questioning afterward,” he wrote in a 2024 autobiography. “I wish I had never met him.”
The former secretary of state repeated her denials of any knowledge about Epstein’s criminal activities and Maxwell in over six hours of testimony on Thursday. She told reporters outside of the hearing that she “answered every one of their questions as fully as I could based on what I knew.”
In a prepared opening statement shared on social media before her deposition, the former first lady repeated statements from the sworn deposition she shared with the committee earlier this year, writing, “I had no idea about their criminal activities.”
“I do not ever recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein,” Hillary Clinton wrote. “I never flew on his plane or visited his island, homes or offices. I have nothing to add to that.”
