An expert has suggested that Prince Harry is experiencing “the pangs of exile” after President Donald Trump deliberately ignored him in a speech delivered before the Royal Family.
This week, the US President was welcomed by King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 78, at Windsor Castle for an official state visit.
Although Trump is known to be an enormous admirer of the Royal Family, he reportedly harbors negative feelings toward Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who abandoned Royal duties in 2020 and relocated to America, where they subsequently spent years attacking the monarchy.
This animosity was subtly revealed during the president’s address on Wednesday at the state banquet.
Speaking before the assembled royals, Mr Trump declared: “I just want to say that His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales. It’s really amazing. We’ve gotten to know you, and I think you’re going to have unbelievable success in the future,” reports the Express.
By exclusively acknowledging the King’s eldest son and future monarch, Prince William, while completely omitting any reference to the sovereign’s younger son, Prince Harry, this has been broadly viewed as a deliberate slight against Harry.
Although Harry has remained silent on the matter, Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams informed Express.co.uk that the absence of any acknowledgment, despite being somewhat predictable, would have left Harry experiencing the “pangs of exile”. This comes even though Harry, 41, is believed to be gradually mending some of the divisions he has faced with his Royal family members, including with his father, whom he visited last week for the first time since February 2024.
Mr Fitzwilliams stated: “Given the royal rift, which has been caused by Harry and Meghan’s destructive behaviour, they should not have been surprised that Harry did not receive a mention in President Trump’s speech.”
He added: “Yet the phrasing was illuminating. When addressing King Charles, he talked of Prince William as his ‘remarkable son’, omitting any mention of Harry.
“Under the circumstances, Harry would not have expected a mention, but the clear implication here was that the King only has one son and certainly only one who was remarkable. Harry must be feeling the pangs of exile.”
When Mr Trump mentioned Prince William, the King could be observed beaming with pride at his eldest son, and numerous Royal supporters spotted the exchange.
One admirer posted on X: “King Charles looked straight at his dutiful son across the table with such a loving look. He is a very proud father.”
Another commented: “I see a proud monarch and father!”.
