{"id":9217,"date":"2025-01-14T11:29:55","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T03:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=9217"},"modified":"2025-01-14T11:29:58","modified_gmt":"2025-01-14T03:29:58","slug":"us-judge-allows-doj-to-release-report-on-trumps-election-subversion-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=9217","title":{"rendered":"US judge allows DOJ to release report on Trump&#8217;s election subversion case"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"632\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/51.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/51.png 632w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/51-300x199.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A federal judge on Monday cleared the way for the U.S. Justice Department to publicly release a portion of former Special Counsel Jack Smith&#8217;s report on President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s 2020 election subversion case.<br>U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Trump at the end of his first term, had previously blocked the Justice Department from releasing the entire report.<br>She declined for now, however, a request by the Justice Department to allow congressional leadership to be permitted to review the second part of Smith&#8217;s report pertaining to Trump&#8217;s retention of classified documents and scheduled an emergency hearing on Friday to hear arguments on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump has denied any wrongdoing in both cases.<br>Attorney General Merrick Garland previously said that he intended to publicly release the first part of Smith&#8217;s report on Trump&#8217;s 2020 election subversion to the public, but that he would refrain from publicly releasing the portion on the classified documents case due to the ongoing criminal proceedings against Trump&#8217;s associates Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smith formally resigned his position as special counsel on Jan. 10.<br>A former war crimes prosecutor, Smith brought two of the four criminal cases Trump faced after leaving office, but saw them grind to a halt after Cannon dismissed the classified documents case and the U.S. Supreme Court\u2014with three justices appointed by Trump\u2014ruled that former presidents have sweeping immunity from prosecution for official acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither case went to trial, and the Justice Department has since dropped the cases against Trump, citing longstanding Justice Department policy against prosecuting a sitting president.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A federal judge on Monday cleared the way for the U.S. Justice Department to publicly release a portion of former Special Counsel Jack Smith&#8217;s report on President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s 2020 election subversion case.U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Trump at the end of his first term, had previously blocked [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":9219,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[3026,1708,617],"class_list":["post-9217","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-international","tag-allows","tag-judge","tag-us"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.0 -
