His Liberal Party is polling poorly as tensions with Trump have risen over the issue of tariffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I\u2019m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election,\u201d Trudeau said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Trudeau\u2019s announcement Monday, Trump touted the idea that many Canadians would \u201cLOVE\u201d the idea of being the \u201c51st State\u201d of the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the merger would be beneficial for the U.S., because it would \u201cno longer suffer\u201d from \u201cmassive Trade Deficits\u201d and subsidies that it provides to Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJustin Trudeau knew this, and resigned,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trudeau has served as Canada\u2019s prime minister for nine years and led the Liberal Party for 11. He has faced mounting crises, including the resignation of a top minister and a confrontation with Trump\u2019s 25 percent tariff plan, among other issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland criticized Trudeau in her resignation, saying he was pursuing \u201ccostly political gimmicks\u201d as Trump threatens tariffs on the neighboring country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump trolled Trudeau last month as Canada\u2019s \u201cgovernor\u201d after they had dinner.
