Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said Monday that she had a \u201cgreat meeting\u201d with President-elect Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, President Trump and I had a great meeting to discuss our shared priorities for the President\u2019s second term,\u201d Bowser said in a statement on X. \u201cPresident Trump and I both want Washington, DC to be the best, most beautiful city in the world and we want the capital city to reflect the strength of our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It wasn\u2019t Bowser and Trump\u2019s first meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2016, Bowser met with Trump at Trump Tower, where they discussed his first transition into the White House, Axios reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time, Bowser said the pair had a \u201cwide-ranging conversation\u201d about public transportation costs and said Trump was \u201ca supporter of the District of Columbia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the two started on decent terms, their relationship faltered over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, Trump said he was canceling a military parade through D.C., blaming local politicians for the $92 million price tag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bowser responded to Trump\u2019s comment with some sarcasm, claiming to be the local politician who \u201cfinally\u201d got through to the \u201creality star in the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years later, Trump sharply rebuked Bowser, calling her incompetent after she withdrew military personnel and federal law enforcement from the 2020 George Floyd protests in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The then-president said Bowser was \u201cconstantly\u201d coming to the federal government for \u201chandouts,\u201d and the National Guard had saved her from \u201cgreat embarrassment\u201d with the protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two sparred over the Black Lives Matter protests across the city. In a letter, Bowser asked Trump to withdraw the law enforcement presence in Washington since protesters were peaceful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things have appeared to be smoothed over between Bowser and Trump as he prepares to re-enter the White House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her statement Monday, Bowser said she and Trump discussed areas for collaboration between Washington\u2019s local government and the federal government that governs out of the city. There are areas for partnership, particularly in the city\u2019s federal workforce, \u201cunderutilized federal buildings, parks and green spaces, and infrastructure,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am optimistic that we will continue to find common ground with the President during his second term, and we look forward to supporting a successful inauguration on January 20,\u201d Bowser\u2019s statement said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
