Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.) released a statement on Wednesday urging President Biden to issue blanket pardons to individuals who may be targeted under President-elect Trump\u2019s FBI Director appointee Kash Patel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy choosing Kash Patel as his FBI Director, Trump has made it clear that he is more focused on settling personal scores than on protecting the American people or upholding the rule of law,\u201d Boyle wrote, adding that this was \u201cno hypothetical threat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that law enforcement officers, military personnel and others are at risk of extreme legal battles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese patriots shouldn\u2019t have to live in fear of political retribution for doing what\u2019s right,\u201d Boyle stated. \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m urging President Biden to issue a blanket pardon for anyone unjustly targeted by this vindictive scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patel has plans to fire some of the top-ranking officials at the Justice Department and demote employees who investigated Trump during his first presidential race in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawmakers had a mixed response to Trump\u2019s decision to appoint an individual who has never led an FBI field office with some saying the move would only \u201cdisrupt,\u201d \u201cdismantle\u201d and \u201cdistract\u201d the agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf we\u2019re serious about stopping Trump\u2019s authoritarian ambitions, we need to act decisively and use every tool at our disposal,\u201d the Pennsylvania representative wrote. \u201cNorms and traditions alone won\u2019t stop him\u2014Trump has shown time and again that he\u2019s willing to ignore them to consolidate power and punish his opponents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After President Biden announced that he\u2019d pardon his son, Hunter, on Sunday, many have called on the Democrat to spend his last month in office granting clemency or blanket pardons to other deserving individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
