{"id":8565,"date":"2024-11-29T17:01:26","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T09:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=8565"},"modified":"2024-11-29T17:01:30","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T09:01:30","slug":"canada-sues-google-claiming-near-total-control-of-online-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=8565","title":{"rendered":"Canada sues Google claiming \u2018near-total control\u2019 of online ads"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"767\" height=\"446\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/1-22.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8566\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/1-22.jpg 767w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/1-22-300x174.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 100vw, 767px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada\u2019s antitrust watchdog said Thursday it was suing Google over its alleged anticompetitive conduct in online advertisements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada\u2019s Competition Bureau said it wants Google to sell off two of its advertisement tech services and pay a penalty, noting that its necessary because an investigation found the company is \u201cunlawfully\u201d tied with its tech tools to maintain its dominant position in the market, The Associated Press reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The matter will now head to the Competition Tribunal, a body the hears the cases brought forth by the competition commissioner about instances that don\u2019t comply with the Competition Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada\u2019s bureau is asking the tribunal to order Google to sell DoubleClick for Publishers, its publisher ad server, and AdX, its ad exchange services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bureau estimates Google holds a 90 percent market share in publisher ad servers, 70 percent in advertiser networks, 60 percent in \u201cdemand-side platforms\u201d and about 50 percent in advertisement exchanges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada argues this dominance has discouraged rival companies from competing, inhibiting innovation and inflated advertising costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGoogle has abused its dominant position in online advertising in Canada by engaging in conduct that locks market participants into using its own ad tech tools, excluding competitors, and distorting the competitive process,\u201d Matthew Boswell, Commissioner of Competition, said in a statement, per the AP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canada\u2019s antitrust watchdog said Thursday it was suing Google over its alleged anticompetitive conduct in online advertisements.
