Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said he\u2019s never seen the type of threats that President-elect Trump\u2019s nominees are facing, noting that it\u2019s a \u201csad result of the heightened rhetoric.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mulvaney joined NewsNation\u2019s Mike Viqueria on Wednesday for \u201cThe Hill\u201d to discuss the threats against nominated officials and his time in Trump\u2019s first administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a sad result of the heightened rhetoric,\u201d Mulvaney said about the threats, later adding \u201cI didn\u2019t see this previously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump nominated Mulvaney in December 2016 to lead the Office of Management and Budget. He said that he didn\u2019t have any protection \u201cwhatsoever\u201d until after the Senate confirmed him, and even then, \u201cit was very, very low\u201d until he became Trump\u2019s acting chief of staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, most of these folks have absolutely no security,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several of Trump\u2019s Cabinet picks were targeted with threats over the last week, including four with reported bomb threats at their homes ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FBI said it was aware of the numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents. It said it was working with law enforcement partners and takes all threats seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nominees impacted by the threats so far are Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), who was selected to be United Nations ambassador; former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who was chosen as Trump\u2019s attorney general but withdrew from consideration; former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.), chosen to lead the Environmental Protection Agency; Brooke Rollins, Trump\u2019s second attorney general choice; Howard Lutnick, chosen to lead the Commerce department; Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.), who was tapped to be Labor secretary and former NFL star Scott Turner, Trump\u2019s Department of Housing and Urban Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his time in office, Mulvaney said he didn\u2019t experience such severe threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
