{"id":8520,"date":"2024-11-28T10:32:44","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T02:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=8520"},"modified":"2024-11-28T10:32:47","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T02:32:47","slug":"trump-nominees-targeted-in-series-of-threats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=8520","title":{"rendered":"Trump nominees targeted in series of threats"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"319\" height=\"174\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20241128103113.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8521\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20241128103113.jpg 319w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20241128103113-300x164.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple nominees and appointees tapped to serve in President-elect Trump\u2019s incoming administration were targeted with threats this week, with at least four officials reporting bomb threats at their homes ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karoline Leavitt, who will serve as White House press secretary after the inauguration, said \u201cseveral\u201d of Trump\u2019s Cabinet picks were the subject of bomb threats and \u201cswatting,\u201d which refers to making false emergency calls targeting a person\u2019s residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn response, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted,\u201d Leavitt said in a statement online. \u201cPresident Trump and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPresident Trump and the Transition are focused on doing the work of uniting our nation by ensuring a safe and prosperous future,\u201d she continued. \u201cWith President Trump as our example, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FBI later confirmed it was aware of \u201cnumerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming administration nominees and appointees\u201d and is \u201cworking with our law enforcement partners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe take all potential threats seriously, and as always, encourage members of the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement,\u201d the bureau said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A spokesperson for Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Trump\u2019s pick to serve as ambassador to the United Nations, said in a statement that her home was targeted with a bomb threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNew York State, County law enforcement, and U.S. Capitol Police responded immediately with the highest levels of professionalism,\u201d Stefanik\u2019s office posted on the social platform X. \u201cWe are incredibly appreciative of the extraordinary dedication of law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe 24\/7.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Okaloosa County sheriff\u2019s office in Florida said in a statement that it received a bomb threat related to former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who withdrew from consideration for attorney general, at a home on Wednesday morning. A family member lives there, but Gaetz does not, the sheriff\u2019s office said. The area was cleared and no devices were found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lee Zeldin, who was nominated to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, said in a statement Wednesday that his family\u2019s home was targeted with a pipe bomb threat containing a \u201cpro-Palestinian themed message.\u201d Zeldin, who is Jewish, said he and his family were not home at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And Brooke Rollins, Trump\u2019s pick to serve as secretary of Agriculture, posted on social media that there was a threat against her home and family in Texas. They were able to return home after the area was cleared by Forth Worth police, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A White House spokesperson told The Hill President Biden had been briefed on the incidents, and the administration was in touch with federal law enforcement and Trump\u2019s team to monitor the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFederal law enforcement\u2019s response, alongside state and local authorities, remains ongoing. The President and the Administration unequivocally condemn threats of political violence,\u201d the White House spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Threats of political violence have become increasingly common in recent years, and Trump was the target of two assassination attempts earlier this year during the presidential campaign.
