Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, the Republican candidate for Senate, said former President Trump\u2019s comments attacking Vice President Harris as mentally disabled are \u201coutrageous and unacceptable\u201d in an interview on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview on CBS News\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation\u201d on Sunday, host Robert Costa pressed Hogan about Trump\u2019s remarks and asked whether he thinks Trump is fit for office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, I think all of that is outrageous and unacceptable. And I\u2019ve already called him out, when he had the one interview where he was questioning her racial identity, and now he\u2019s questioning her mental competence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hogan, who\u2019s running as a moderate Republican in a blue state, added that Trump\u2019s remarks are \u201cinsulting not only to the, to the vice president, but to people that actually do have mental disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd, you know, I\u2019ve said for years that Trump\u2019s divisive rhetoric is something that we could do without. I think he\u2019s his own worst enemy,\u201d Hogan continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hogan suggested Trump\u2019s attack on Harris is a symptom of a larger problem in politics and Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m very concerned about the toxic and divisive politics that seems to continue really back and forth. It\u2019s what people are so fed up with. It\u2019s why they want to change Washington,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hogan\u2019s criticism follows recent attacks from the former president against his opponent, Harris, attacking her as mentally incompetent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKamala is mentally impaired. If a Republican did what she did, that Republican would be impeached and removed from office, and rightfully so, for high crimes and misdemeanors,\u201d Trump said at a rally in Wisconsin this weekend, according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJoe Biden became mentally impaired. Kamala was born that way. She was born that way. And if you think about it, only a mentally disabled person could have allowed this to happen to our country,\u201d Trump added, according to the reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this week, Trump said Harris has \u201cbigger cognitive problems\u201d than President Biden, who ended his campaign amid public concern over his mental acuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other members of his party have criticized Trump\u2019s remarks, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who said Sunday on CNN, \u201cI just think the better course to take is to prosecute the case that her policies are destroying the country,\u201d adding, \u201cI\u2019m not saying she\u2019s crazy, her policies are crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung did not address Trump\u2019s remarks, or Hogan\u2019s criticism, in a statement to The Hill, but he called Harris \u201cwholly unfit,\u201d blaming her for what Cheung suggested was an inadequate border strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKamala Harris is wholly unfit to serve as president, as evidenced by the shocking ICE numbers that were released last week detailing her abhorrent dereliction of duty of not securing the border allowing murderers, rapists, and convicted criminals to pour into our country to terrorize communities,\u201d Cheung said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
