JD Vance (Ohio) leaned into recent attacks by former President Trump on Vice President Harris\u2019s background during a rally in Georgia Saturday, while calling her campaign tactics \u201cpretty weird.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the \u201cweird\u201d rhetoric Harris\u2019s campaign has levied at the Trump-Vance ticket, he took a swing at her recent rally at the same venue in Atlanta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s especially weird when Kamala Harris comes to Atlanta, I believe came here to this\u2026 arena,\u201d Vance told the crowd at Georgia State University. \u201cKamala Harris comes to Atlanta and talks with a fake Southern accent, even though she grew up in Canada, you can\u2019t make it up, that\u2019s pretty weird.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGo watch the clip, she sounded like a Southern belle,\u201d he continued \u201cEven though she grew up in Vancouver, doesn\u2019t make any sense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Harris spent some of her youth in Montreal, she also lived in Wisconsin growing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s talk about some things that are weird,\u201d Vance continued. \u201cWe think it\u2019s weird that Democrats wanna put sexually explicit books in toddlers\u2019 libraries. We think it\u2019s weird that the far left wants to allow biological males to beat the livin\u2019 crap outta women in boxing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe think it\u2019s weird for a presidential candidate to bail convicted rapists and murderers out of prison, and that\u2019s what Kamala Harris did,\u201d he claimed, looking back at the vice president\u2019s time as a federal prosecutor in California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harris, who was officially nominated Friday to be the Democratic presidential nominee, has faced a slew of criticism over her background in recent days. She rose to the top of the ticket after President Biden stepped aside from the race and endorsed her to take on Trump in the fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this week, Trump even questioned her heritage and racial identity during an interview with Black journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe was always of Indian heritage. And she was only promoting Indian heritage,\u201d Trump said during a combative interview at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention Wednesday in Chicago. \u201cI didn\u2019t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now she wants to be known as Black.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His remarks were in response to a question ABC News political correspondent Rachel Scott, who asked about Republicans\u2019 claims that Harris \u2014 the first Black and South Asian woman to be elected as vice president \u2014 was just a \u201cDEI\u201d hire, referencing diversity, equity and inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump received heavy blowback for his comments, including from the White House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a person of color, as a Black woman \u2026 what he just said, what you just read out to me, is repulsive, it\u2019s insulting and no one has any right to tell someone who they are, how they identify,\u201d White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the first Black person to have her role, said of his comments on Harris\u2019 race and ethnicity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a campaign stop earlier this week in Arizona, Vance defended the former president\u2019s comments, calling the reaction \u201chysterical\u201d and comparing Harris to a \u201cchameleon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hill has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican vice-presidential nominee Sen.
