It\u2019ll likely not be Fox News. It probably won\u2019t be ABC News. But they will pick a venue, and they\u2019ll debate,\u201d he told weekend host Jessica Dean Saturday. \u201cSo, this is him posturing. This is him trying to get attention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard for him, but he has struggled over the last three weeks to win the attention cycle,\u201d he continued, adding that it \u201cwould be a disaster for him if he doesn\u2019t debate the vice president.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former president has backed away from the original debate date, proposing Sept. 4 as an alternative, writing late Friday in a post online that he agreed to debate Harris at the earlier date, but only if it\u2019s on Fox News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Debate was previously scheduled against Sleepy Biden on ABC, but has been terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant, and I am in litigation against ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos, thereby creating a conflict of interest,\u201d the former president wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael Tyler, communications director for Harris\u2019 campaign, said in a previous statement to The Hill that Harris will attend the ABC debate on Sep. 10, even if Trump won\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs Vice President Harris said last week, the American people deserve to hear from the two candidates running for the highest office in the land and she will do that at September\u2019s ABC debate,\u201d Tyler said. \u201cIf Donald Trump and his team are saying anything other than \u2018we\u2019ll see you there,\u2019 \u2014 and it appears that they are \u2014 it\u2019s a convenient, but expected backtrack from Team Trump. Vice President Harris will be there on September 10th \u2014 we\u2019ll see if Trump shows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scaramucci said Trump knows that if he doesn\u2019t debate Harris, he will have to withstand weeks of \u201cgetting pounded by her\u201d and her potential running mate over the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump argued earlier this week that a debate with Harris wasn\u2019t necessary, citing his lead in the polls. He took a similar stance during the GOP primary race when he opted to sit out of the debates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWell, I want to. And we\u2019re leading in the polls it seems by quite a bit still,\u201d Trump said, pointing to the shake-up after Biden withdrew from the race last month. \u201cShe\u2019s better than he is, but I think ultimately she\u2019ll be worse than him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harris\u2019s campaign responded to pushback, painting the GOP nominee as \u201ctoo scared\u201d to face her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci signaled Saturday that former President Trump could face \u201cdisaster\u201d if he doesn\u2019t debate Vice President Harris ahead of November.
