Comedian Jon Stewart took aim at Republicans who criticized President Biden\u2019s exit from the race, suggesting that their party could also replace former President Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stewart played clips of Republicans claiming that Biden\u2019s withdrawal from the race and endorsing Vice President Harris was a \u201ccoup\u201d within the Democratic Party on Monday\u2019s episode of \u201cThe Daily Show.\u201d He then suggested that Republicans could make it a fair contest and replace their nominee, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut I get it. If I thought I had this thing in the bag, you were gonna be going up against Old Joe Biden, then they pull this, I\u2019d be like, \u2018Ref, ref open your eyes. How can you not see they\u2019re coup-ing! They\u2019re coup-ing!\u2019\u201d Stewart said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut you know what? I do understand that they\u2019re upset. It makes sense. So how about we do this out of fairness, I\u2019m a fair person, you can replace your old guy too,\u201d he added a few moments later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some Republicans have criticized the late-switch up between Biden and Harris as bypassing proper democratic processes. An analysis from The New York Times found that at least 65 Republican senators, representatives and governors said that Biden\u2019s withdrawal was a \u201ccoup\u201d or labeled it as election interference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stewart went on to say that Trump\u2019s response to Biden leaving the race was the \u201cTrumpiest way possible,\u201d when the former president questioned whether the Republican Party should be \u201creimbursed for fraud in that everybody around Joe, including his doctors and the Fake News Media, knew he was not capable of running for, or being, President.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, what\u2019s done is done. You\u2019re gonna have to shift gears, recalibrate, you\u2019ve had crooked Joe and sleepy Joe on speed dial. You\u2019re gonna need a new line of attack,\u201d Stewart said after showing Trump\u2019s Truth Social post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biden endorsed Harris for the ticket shortly after announcing his own decision to withdraw from the race last week. In the first week of her White House bid, her campaign raised $200 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
