{"id":4115,"date":"2023-11-10T16:22:11","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T08:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=4115"},"modified":"2023-11-10T16:22:16","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T08:22:16","slug":"u-s-californias-high-living-cost-hits-middle-class-families-hard-says-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=4115","title":{"rendered":"U.S. California&#8217;s high living cost hits middle-class families hard, says report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0A new report reveals that living in the U.S. state of California imposes a hefty &#8220;cost-of-living penalty&#8221; on typical middle-class families compared to the national average costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/\u56fe\u7247-11-1024x768.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/\u56fe\u7247-11-1024x768.png 1024w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/\u56fe\u7247-11-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/\u56fe\u7247-11-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/\u56fe\u7247-11.png 1136w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Living in California is already more expensive than in other states, and the higher costs are &#8220;unreasonable and completely unnecessary,&#8221; said the Cost of California Report published by the Transparency Foundation, a California-based organization, on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report calculates the total higher costs paid by Californians in major household budget categories, including housing, utilities, food, gas, transportation, healthcare, insurance, childcare, and taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In every household budget category, the cost of living in California is exponentially higher than the national average,&#8221; said Carl DeMaio, the organization&#8217;s chairman, in a news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the report, a typical middle-class family earning 130,000 U.S. dollars a year would face an extra cost of 26,478 dollars annually by living in California, compared with the national average costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Housing cost is the most significant category, the report shows, with homeowners paying 32 percent more and renters paying 47 percent more in California than the rest of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, about 40 percent of Californians are considering moving out of the state. Among them, 67 percent cite the high living costs as the main reason, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeMaio blamed the state politicians&#8217; &#8220;costly mandates and bad policies&#8221; for driving up the living expenses. Incumbent state and local politicians should be &#8220;held accountable&#8221; for the working families&#8217; financial hardships, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report also makes recommendations on how California&#8217;s leaders can reduce costs for Californians, such as adopting the same regulations as the lowest cost state in each cost category, creating a state &#8220;Cost-of-Living Benchmark&#8221; Commission, and proposing a package of reforms for voter approval.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0A new report reveals that living in the U.S. state of California imposes a hefty &#8220;cost-of-living penalty&#8221; on typical middle-class families compared to the national average costs.
