Election analyst Nate Silver has given a major update to his midterm election predictions \u2013 and it\u2019s good news for the Democrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silver predicts there is now a 79 percent chance of Democrats taking the Senate, up from his previous estimate of 75 percent, as Republicans brace themselves for a blowout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVery strong polls for Democrats in individual Senate races over the past couple of days,\u201d Silver posted on X. \u201cPolls can be wrong, that’s what models\/probabilities\/markets are for, but I think we’re past the point where you can honestly say \u2018polls show the Senate is too close to call.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The election forecaster revealed his new figures on The Argument<\/em> <\/a>YouTube show. \u201cIt’s 79 in the Senate,\u201d he said. \u201cThat’s a little bit higher than prediction markets, but I feel decent about that actually.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Silver also cautioned on his Substack<\/a> that Democrats\u2019 polling leads in key Senate battleground states<\/a>, including Texas, Ohio, Alaska and Maine, \u201care all just a normal-sized polling error away from flipping.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Democrats \u201cremain strong favorites\u201d to retake the House, Silver added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Donald Trump\u2019s favorite pollster, CNN\u2019s Harry Enten<\/a>, also predicted Democrats will win big next Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook at it now, up like a rocket. We\u2019re now talking 223 seats. This is north of the 218 that Democrats need to take back the U.S. House of Representatives,\u201d Enten said Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week\u2019s elections are widely considered a referendum on the Trump administration after nearly two years in power. Trump\u2019s approval ratings have tanked to historic lows amid his deeply unpopular war in Iran, and as Americans continue to struggle with the cost of living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans are bracing themselves for \u201ca brutal evening\u201d<\/a> as some members are already expressing resignation about losing their majorities in Congress, Politico<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnce the dominoes start falling it becomes hard to stop them,\u201d one senior Republican strategist told the outlet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are nevertheless facing \u201ca worse position than they expected earlier this year,\u201d according to Politico<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAny Democrats telling you they aren\u2019t winning the Senate [besides] a couple of seats are sandbagging expectations,\u201d one particularly dismayed senior Republican is quoted as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 40 million Americans have already cast their ballots<\/a> in an election that will have major repercussions for the second half of Trump\u2019s final term. If Democrats do retake the House and the Senate, it would render him a lame duck, powerless to pass his legislative agenda and under investigation by emboldened Democrats on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
