Her removal from the department\u2019s highest office followed controversial immigration enforcement operations, leading to the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis \u2014 one of whom Noem branded a \u201cdomestic terrorist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noem\u2019s Homeland Security tenure was shrouded in controversy, including scrutiny surrounding her relationship and association with Corey Lewandowski, a former adviser for the department. House Democrats opened an investigation into Lewandowski in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pigott said Thursday that Noem would remain working on the Shield of the Americas initiative but declined to provide specifics on what this would entail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere\u2019s always these types of changes that happen,\u201d Pigott said. \u201cThis is part of what\u2019s happening with these positions.
