Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) said Sunday that Americans are \u201cfatigued\u201d about rising diesel prices amid the Iran war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think there is some fatigue in that the American people see diesel prices increasing,\u201d Crawford told host Chris Stirewalt on NewsNation\u2019s \u201cThe Hill Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd why that matters as much as gasoline \u2014 if not more \u2014 is because our whole supply chain is fueled by diesel fuel,\u201d the Arkansas Republican added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diesel costs nearly $6.50 per gallon on average nationally, according to AAA. The fuel costs roughly 85 cents more than a month ago and about $2.80 more than a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fuel costs across the board remain elevated amid the seven-month conflict, as shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea have seen diminished traffic due to restrictions from the Iranian military and the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While President Trump<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf they were to just outright ban exports for 90 days, it probably would, in the short term, lead to lower prices,\u201d Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, told The Hill this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut then, as prices fall, refiners would probably respond, and how they do that could vary significantly,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crawford noted the impact rising diesel prices has on the rest of the economy, saying \u201ceverything goes up\u201d in response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think that\u2019s made people uncomfortable,\u201d the GOP lawmaker noted, before echoing the president in arguing the economic pain is worth it to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut here\u2019s something that would make you even more uncomfortable, and that is Iran with a nuclear weapon. \u2026 Is it worth it to pay a little bit more in diesel prices, hopefully in the short term, to neutralize their ability to arm in a nuclear way?\u201d the House Intelligence Committee chair asked Stirewalt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crawford continued, \u201cOr are we just going to say, let\u2019s just cut bait here and move on, cut our losses and move on? We cannot have a nuclear-armed Iran. We just can\u2019t. And it\u2019s going to make us a little bit uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
