President Donald Trump will consider pardoning Michael Cohen, he told reporters Wednesday, just weeks<\/a> after appearing on his former fixer’s radio show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before departing for the midterm Republican National Convention in Dallas, Trump said he would weigh a pardon \u201cif everything is checked out\u201d but did not elaborate. The two men had a very bitter and public fallout during the president\u2019s first term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, Cohen served a three-year sentence<\/a> for falsifying business documents while working for Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was very illegal, what they did,\u201d Trump said of the prosecution of Cohen. \u201cWhat they put him through was incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pair started as friends when Cohen worked as Trump\u2019s personal attorney and \u201cfixer.\u201d During the New York prosecutor\u2019s 2024 hush money case against Trump<\/a>, however, Cohen\u2019s star witness testimony helped make then-candidate Trump the first ever former president to become a convicted felon<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The relationship continued to devolve in 2024 when Cohen told Congress<\/a>that he lied and bullied on behalf of Trump during his time working for the Trump Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From there, Cohen became a fierce critic of Trump, calling him racist and a con man. In an April 2024 interview with POLITICO, he said the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was \u201cgrotesque\u201d and that \u201cthere will never be another election again in America\u201d if Trump was reelected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the August interview on Cohen\u2019s radio show, during which Cohen flattered the president as he touted grievances and unverified statistics, marked a shift in their friendship as Cohen appeared back in line with his former boss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of that interview, Cohen said, \u201cReunited and it feels so good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cohen declined to comment on Trump\u2019s latest comments, though he previously told POLITICO<\/a> he was weighing whether to ask Trump for a pardon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see,\u201d he said. \u201cWill I make that request down the road? I don\u2019t know. Maybe, maybe not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said he previously sent pardon applications to former President Joe Biden and the Trump administration, but said he doesn\u2019t consider clemency, which would allow him to regain his law license, critical at this point.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
