{"id":17412,"date":"2026-09-04T09:16:35","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T01:16:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=17412"},"modified":"2026-09-04T09:16:42","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T01:16:42","slug":"auto-companies-call-for-ban-on-chinese-made-cars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=17412","title":{"rendered":"Auto companies call for ban on Chinese-made cars"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"657\" height=\"341\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/8.png 657w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/8-300x156.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 657px) 100vw, 657px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A group representing American automakers sent a letter Thursday to congressional leaders asking for a \u201cpermanent ban\u201d on Chinese-made cars in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Bozzella, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation\u2019s CEO and president, described in the letter China\u2019s manufacturing industry as \u201crooted in a well-documented pattern of unfair trade, subsidies, intellectual property theft and surveillance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bozzella addressed his request to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) \u2014 urging them to back a \u201cpermanent ban on the sale, import and manufacture of Chinese connected vehicles,\u201d before the 119th Congress concludes in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRight now, Chinese automakers are dumping subsidized vehicles with connected software and hardware around the world,\u201d Bozzella wrote, adding that China \u201cis capturing market share\u201d in Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, Mexico and South America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis hasn\u2019t happened inside the U.S. yet, but given the scale and urgency of this threat, we urge you to enact a Chinese vehicle, software and hardware ban before adjourning this year and make this policy the law of the land,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a trade organization representing car manufacturers, represents the \u201centire\u201d U.S. auto industry, per its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee in July approved legislation that proposed banning companies with more than 15 percent Chinese ownership from selling vehicles in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the bill, Mercedes-Benz would be unable to sell cars in the country, as Chinese investors hold nearly 20 percent of the German automaker\u2019s shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reps. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) and John Moolenaar (R-Mich.) have introduced similar legislation in the House.
