Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) voiced her concern over a meeting between House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Jared Kushner, President Trump\u2019s son-in-law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While walking near the Capitol, Ocasio-Cortez was asked if she was \u201cconcerned with\u201d Jeffries\u2019s meeting with Kushner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYeah,\u201d she said before laughing. \u201cI don\u2019t know what that was about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The New York Times reported in late August that Kushner and Jeffries met privately ahead of November\u2019s midterms to discuss common ground \u2014 including housing, immigration and the high cost of living. Kushner reportedly advised Jeffries during the meeting to talk with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, according to two people with knowledge of the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kushner, who is married to Trump\u2019s daughter Ivanka Trump, has served as a foreign envoy for the White House. He has focused on the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as failed peace talks with Iranian officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ocasio-Cortez previously commented on the meeting Monday, saying, \u201cKushner holds this very bizarre role where he is wielding political influence without a political position and the accountability and public transparency that is required in such a position.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think that what we\u2019d love to see as well with respect to Mr. Kushner is some transparency into his dealings and what he is doing with respect to his conflicts of interest,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think that what we really need right now is to focus on our plan for how we\u2019re going to help people\u2019s lives,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June, Ocasio-Cortez made a rare move by supporting Jeffries continuing as leader \u2014 marking the first time in two election cycles she backed an incumbent \u2014 naming his focus on affordability as a major reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jeffries, a fellow lawmaker from the Empire State, responded to the criticism he received for the meeting, stating, \u201cNo one from the Trump Cartel is getting a pass.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said in a video about the meeting that Kushner reached out to him first, and he accepted so the pair could discuss affordability. His post emphasized, however, that House Democrats have pushed the Trump administration on issues including tariffs, the Affordable Care Act, and nutritional assistance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
