President Trump on Wednesday floated changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz to the Trump Strait, despite the waterway not having a single owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT??? Like America itself, it would be \u2018hotter\u2019 than ever before!\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strait is an international waterway that has some water in Oman and Iran territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea of naming the body of water after the president comes after Trump has also suggested that he will make the strait a U.S. territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPretty soon, I will be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States,\u201d Trump said during remarks last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has not elaborated on how he would change the strait\u2019s name or make the critical shipping lane a U.S. territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roughly 20 percent of the world\u2019s oil and gas is shipped through the waterway. The war with Iran has slowed traffic, sending energy prices skyrocketing worldwide. The U.S. maintains its naval blockade on the shipping route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The war with Iran has surpassed the six-month mark, and still no deals have been made to end the fighting or end Iran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. launched a new wave of strikes on Tehran on Tuesday. Trump has said he is \u201cnot trying to force Iran to the negotiating table.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement. I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing,\u201d Trump stated Tuesday on Truth Social. \u201cThey are just playing out the inevitable.
