The tankers will be demolished \u200bin scrap yards in India.<br><br>\u201cThe U.S. government has sold them \u200bto us and there was a court order authorizing the sales, but there are complexities, not least the fact that we weren\u2019t really \u200bsure who previously owned them,\u201d GMS CEO Anil Sharma told \u200bLloyd\u2019s List.<br>GMS did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.<br>U.S. \u200cCoast \u2060Guard and military special forces seized the Russian-flagged Era in January in waters south of Iceland, ending a weeks-long pursuit across the Atlantic. The vessel had previously slipped through a U.S. \u200bblockade in \u200bthe Caribbean aimed \u2060at stopping oil exports from Venezuela.<br>Washington said then that the Era had been used to \u200btransport sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran.<br><br>The \u200bU.S. also \u2060seized the Russian-flagged vessel now known as Lileo in the Caribbean Sea in January. That tanker was subject to U.S. sanctions \u2060against Russia.<br>The \u200bU.S. seized as many as 10 \u200boil tankers after its military action in Venezuela.
