{"id":16625,"date":"2026-07-06T23:34:51","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T15:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=16625"},"modified":"2026-07-06T23:35:04","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T15:35:04","slug":"prosecutors-to-detail-case-against-alleged-charlie-kirk-assassin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=16625","title":{"rendered":"Prosecutors to detail case against alleged Charlie Kirk assassin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"692\" height=\"328\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16626\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2.png 692w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2-300x142.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors in Utah this week will reveal some evidence against Tyler Robinson, the man they accuse of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk last September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robinson will appear in court for a five-day preliminary hearing, during which prosecutors will attempt to convince state District Judge Tony Graf they have enough evidence to try the 23-year-old and seek the death penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspect is facing a slew of charges, including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors have said they plan to present DNA evidence linking Robinson to the suspected weapon, testimony from investigators, findings from Kirk\u2019s autopsy, witness statements and video of the conservative activist being shot at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, according to The Associated Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors will also show a videotaped statement by Robinson\u2019s former roommate and possible lover, during which the individual will discuss messages the two exchanged after the shooting of Kirk, according to CNN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While prosecutors must demonstrate there are reasonable grounds to believe Robinson killed Kirk, they do not have to prove the former\u2019s guilt \u201cbeyond a reasonable doubt,\u201d the benchmark for a jury to convict a suspect of a crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robinson has yet to enter a plea, while his attorneys have unsuccessfully tried to take the death penalty off the table. The suspect\u2019s defense team plans to call three forensic experts to testify this week, CNN reported Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Less than 48 hours after the Sept. 10 killing of Kirk, Robinson turned himself in with assistance from his parents and a family friend who was a retired detective and sheriff\u2019s deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was a close ally of President Trump and played a major role in the president\u2019s ground game operation during the 2024 campaign. Trump in October posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation\u2019s top civilian honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kirk\u2019s parents, Robert and Kathryn Kirk, and his widow, Erika Kirk, will appear in court this week for the first time, a source familiar told CNN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday morning, Kirk\u2019s parents, widow and sister, Mary, released a statement saying they \u201cwill not be commenting further at this time\u201d as the judicial process plays out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCharlie was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father,\u201d the Kirk family said. \u201cEvery court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe remain deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and kindness we have received.
