{"id":16598,"date":"2026-07-04T15:02:52","date_gmt":"2026-07-04T07:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=16598"},"modified":"2026-07-04T15:02:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-04T07:02:59","slug":"trump-pardons-11-people-including-several-for-clean-air-act-violations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=16598","title":{"rendered":"Trump pardons 11 people, including several for Clean Air Act violations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16599\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1-1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">President Donald Trump talks to reporters after signing an executive order in the Oval Office at the White House on June 29, in Washington, DC.\u00a9\u00a0Alex Wong\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Donald Trump pardoned 11 people on Friday, a White House official told CNN, including several individuals who violated the Clean Air Act aimed at cutting down on emissions and improving air quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116857677816767526\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;earlier Friday that he signed pardons for six people who he argued were \u201cpersecuted by the Biden Administration\u201d for violating clean-air and emissions laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is my Great Honor to have just signed Pardons for six people who were persecuted by the Biden Administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for \u2018fixing their car.\u2019\u201d Trump posted to Truth Social, adding that he believes they were victims of a weaponized Justice Department. \u201cI AM SETTING THEM ALL FREE, RIGHT NOW!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The president met with senior officials earlier on Friday to discuss the slate of new pardons, a senior White House official told CNN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump\u2019s Justice Department had ordered federal prosecutors earlier this year to drop criminal investigations and abandon pending cases related to \u201cdefeat devices\u201d \u2014 software used to bypass emissions controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump\u2019s post did not identify those he pardoned. The first White House official later sent CNN the names of the 11 total people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump pardoned Joshua Davis, whom the official said was on probation. In 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/newsreleases\/under-settlement-epa-east-peoria-businesses-must-halt-sales-devices-alter-vehicle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced a settlement<\/a>&nbsp;collectively with Davis and several Illinois businesses requiring them \u201cto stop manufacturing, selling, offering to sell, and installing devices that bypass, defeat, or render inoperative EPA-approved emission controls and harm air quality, commonly referred to as Aftermarket Defeat Devices.\u201d The defendants were ordered to pay $600,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matt Geouge was pardoned after being sentenced \u201cfor conspiracy to violate the Clean Air Act\u201d by selling \u201cdefeat devices,\u201d according to a 2022&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-wdnc\/pr\/hendersonville-man-sentenced-prison-violating-clean-air-act-selling-thousands-illegal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">news release<\/a>&nbsp;from the United States Attorney\u2019s Office for the Western District of North Carolina. He was also sentenced for tax evasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another pardon was offered to Jonathan Achtemeier, who was sentenced for conspiracy to violate the Clean Air Act and pleaded guilty to tampering \u201cwith the monitoring devices on hundreds of vehicles nationwide so those trucks would not detect that their owners removed pollution control hardware systems,\u201d according to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-wdwa\/pr\/indiana-man-sentenced-prison-conspiracy-violate-clean-air-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">news release<\/a>&nbsp;from the United States Attorney\u2019s Office in the Western District of Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tim Clancy, who was sentenced for crimes related to tampering with emissions monitoring devices,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-or\/pr\/oregon-transportation-company-and-owner-sentenced-probation-and-criminal-fines-tampering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to<\/a>&nbsp;the US attorney\u2019s office for the District of Oregon, was also pardoned today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ryan and Wade Lalone were also pardoned by Trump. According to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-wdmi\/pr\/2024_0223_Diesel_Freak_LLC_Sentenced\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">news release<\/a>&nbsp;from the US attorney\u2019s office in western Michigan, the Lalones were each sentenced to one year of probation as part of a case targeting a scheme to disable emissions controls on semi-trucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barry Pierce, Aaron Rudolf, Adam Kidan, Mackenzie Spurlock and Jack Harvard are the names of the other individuals pardoned by Trump today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The typical jockeying for pardons has ramped up significantly under the Trump administration. The president himself has taken an increasingly personal role in the government\u2019s clemency process, wielding pardons with historic frequency to aid allies and advance his own political grievances,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/12\/08\/politics\/pardon-trump-who-why?cid=external-feeds_iluminar_msn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN previously reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The effort has been managed by a small clutch of senior aides and advisers, including White House special counsel David Warrington, chief of staff Susie Wiles and US Pardon Attorney Ed Martin.
