Representative Kevin Kiley, a former Republican who has recently become an independent, joined Democrats \u200bto oppose the measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Republican-led Senate passed the same bill late last week after a marathon voting session. Republicans used a fast-track process known as reconciliation, which allowed them to circumvent opposition \u200bfrom Senate Democrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/\u4f01\u4e1a\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20260610085344.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/\u4f01\u4e1a\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20260610085344.png 720w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/\u4f01\u4e1a\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20260610085344-300x195.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Policy disagreements between Republicans and Democrats over reforms for immigration agents \u200bled to a 76-day partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year. \u200cThe \u2060shutdown largely ended in April, after Trump signed a bipartisan bill funding DHS agencies that are not involved in the president&#8217;s immigration crackdown through September 30, the end of the fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump repeatedly upended Republicans&#8217; efforts to pass the legislation in the \u200bSenate with his support \u200bfor $1 billion toward \u2060security for his White House ballroom and a $1.8 billion &#8220;anti-weaponization&#8221; fund that could compensate his political allies for allegations that the \u200bgovernment mistreated them.<br>The ballroom funding was removed from the bill, \u200band Republicans \u2060defeated amendments to impose restrictions on the anti-weaponization fund, which the administration has said will no longer go forward.<br>Democrats vehemently opposed funding for immigration enforcement after the fatal shootings \u2060of \u200btwo Americans by immigration agents in January.
