The city had called the funding \u200bsuspension an unlawful act of political retaliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"687\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/\u4f01\u4e1a\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20260325144102-1024x687.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/\u4f01\u4e1a\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20260325144102-1024x687.png 1024w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/\u4f01\u4e1a\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20260325144102-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/\u4f01\u4e1a\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20260325144102-768x515.png 768w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/\u4f01\u4e1a\u5fae\u4fe1\u622a\u56fe_20260325144102.png 1043w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin granted the CTA&#8217;s \u200brequest for a temporary restraining order to require the funding but put his \u2060ruling on hold until Friday to give the federal government time to appeal.<br>The ruling is part of \u200ba widening legal battle between the Trump administration and Democratic-governed cities over the withholding of billions \u200bof dollars in previously approved federal transit funding, with similar lawsuits filed in New York.<br>The CTA on Tuesday called the ruling &#8220;a massive step toward restoration of funding for this historic project.&#8221;<br>Durkin&#8217;s ruling noted that the Transportation Department has only \u200bapplied concerns about compliance with antidiscrimination laws to major projects in Chicago and New York, which \u200bindicates the reviews &#8220;are a pretextual basis for some other interest unrelated to actual compliance.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chicago has the second-largest U.S. \u200cpublic \u2060transportation system, with about a million rides taken daily.
