We will continue working on this, and I look forward to seeing him in Davos later this week,\u201d Rutte wrote in a post on the social platform X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The White House did not immediately respond to The Hill\u2019s request for comment on their talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday, Trump said he would impose a 10 percent tariff on Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom after the countries decided to send troops to Greenland\u2019s capital of Nuuk for \u201cOperation Arctic Endurance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each of the NATO member nations deployed soldiers to solidify support for Greenland\u2019s autonomy following the Trump administration\u2019s intent to annex the Arctic island for \u201cnational security purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response to their pushback, the president said the tax would go into effect Feb. 1 and increase to 25 percent on June 1 until \u201ca Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">European leaders pushed back heavily on the trade measure in a joint statement, describing tariff threats as an effort to \u201cundermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral,\u201d according to CBS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sign up for the Morning Report<br>The latest in politics and policy.
