President Trump on Sunday took aim at Cuba after the U.S.\u2019s recent capture of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou know, one of the things that is happening, and I think you see it, you see it all the time, Howard. You\u2019ve seen it \u2014 that Cuba is ready to fall,\u201d Trump said on Air Force One alongside Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump announced over the weekend the U.S. had gone through with a \u201clarge-scale strike\u201d on the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. The president also said the U.S. would \u201crun\u201d the South American country up until a transition after Maduro\u2019s capture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in the business of having countries around us that are viable and successful and where the oil is allowed to freely come out, because that\u2019s good, it gets the prices down,\u201d Trump also told reporters aboard Air Force One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s good for our country. We have a very sick neighbor. It\u2019s not a neighbor, but it\u2019s close to a neighbor, and that\u2019s Venezuela. It\u2019s very sick. Colombia is very sick too, run by a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States,\u201d Trump added, most likely referencing Colombian President Gustavo Petro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Petro has slammed the recent American action in Venezuela, saying the U.S. \u201cis the first country in the world to bomb a South American capital in all of human history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat a terrible medal that is because for generations South Americans will not forget. The wound remains open for a long time; our revenge must not exist, even though our Latin ancestors always whisper to us in our minds about \u2018Vendetta,\u2019\u201d Petro said Sunday in a translated post on the social platform X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump also gave a warning to Mexico, saying the country \u201chas to get their act together,\u201d and that drugs are \u201cpouring through Mexico and we\u2019re going to have to do something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019d love Mexico to do it,\u201d he added. \u201cThey\u2019re capable of doing it, but unfortunately the cartels are very strong in Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement Monday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that her country\u2019s \u201cposition against any form of intervention is firm, clear, and historic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn light of recent events in Venezuela, where the United States government carried out a direct intervention that resulted in the capture of President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and his wife, as well as the loss of human lives, Mexico reaffirms a principle that is not new and admits no ambiguity,\u201d she added in her statement translated from Spanish according to Google. \u201cWe categorically reject intervention in the internal affairs of other countries.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
