RODRIGUEZ CARRILLO, AFP via Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Air travel in the Caribbean and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/travel\/news\/2026\/01\/03\/flights-puerto-rico-grounded\/88006714007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Puerto Rico<\/a>&nbsp;will resume at midnight Jan. 4 after hundreds of flights were canceled in the wake of the United States&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/world\/2026\/01\/03\/jets-and-blasts-shake-venezuelan-capital\/87244708007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conducting military strikes in Venezuela<\/a>&nbsp;and capturing the country\u2019s leader,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2026\/01\/03\/us-attacks-venezuela-captures-maduro-what-we-know\/88004662007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a Jan. 3 post on X,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecDuffy\/status\/2007655714853142970?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy<\/a>&nbsp;said airspace restrictions would expire and flights can resume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Airlines are informed, and will update their schedules quickly. Please continue to work with your airline if your flight was affected by the restrictions,&#8221; Duffy wrote on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier on Jan. 3, the airspace in Puerto Rico was restricted and flights from Luis Mu\u00f1oz Mar\u00edn International Airport in the island\u2019s capital, San Juan, were canceled, the airport&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AeropuertoSJU\/status\/2007402873894674761?s=20\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said in a statement<\/a>. At least 150 flights heading out of that airport, which is the Caribbean&#8217;s busiest hub, were canceled,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightaware.com\/live\/cancelled\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to FlightAware<\/a>. An additional 140 flights headed to San Juan were canceled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other airports in Puerto Rico, including those in Ceiba, Aguadilla, Ponce, Isla Grande, Vieques and Culebra, also canceled flights, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elnuevodia.com\/negocios\/turismo\/notas\/restringen-temporalmente-espacio-aereo-del-aeropuerto-luis-munoz-marin-tras-actividad-militar-en-venezuela\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Puerto Rico Ports Authority Executive Director Norberto Negr\u00f3n D\u00edaz<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puerto Rico Gov. Jenniffer Gonz\u00e1lez described the closure as a national security measure during a radio interview, as reported by local news outlet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elnuevodia.com\/negocios\/turismo\/notas\/restringen-temporalmente-espacio-aereo-del-aeropuerto-luis-munoz-marin-tras-actividad-militar-en-venezuela\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">El Nuevo D\u00eda<\/a>. She added that local agencies were coordinating with federal partners to manage airport and cargo operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several airlines have said they have canceled flights to other locations in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">JetBlue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>JetBlue&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jetblue.com\/travel-alerts\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on Saturday, Jan. 3, said<\/a>&nbsp;flights in more than one dozen cities in the Caribbean were impacted due to airspace restrictions. The airline said the cities impacted included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (BQN)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antigua (ANU)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aruba (AUA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bonaire (BON)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bridgetown, Barbados (BGI)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cura\u00e7ao (CUR)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Georgetown, Guyana (GEO)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grenada (GND)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ponce, Puerto Rico (PSE)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (POS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (STX)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Lucia (UVF)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Maarten (SXM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (STT)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The airlines said customers may rebook their flights for travel through Jan. 10 online in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jetblue.com\/manage-trips\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">manage trips<\/a>&nbsp;section of jetblue.com prior to the departure time of their originally scheduled flight. In addition, customers who had flights canceled may also opt for a refund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">American Airlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>American Airlines&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com\/i18n\/travel-info\/travel-alerts.jsp?utm_source=ts2.tech\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">noted flights from 19 Caribbean cities<\/a>&nbsp;have been impacted due to airspace closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cities who have had flights impacted include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anguilla Wallblake, Anguilla (AXA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antigua, Antigua (ANU)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Argyle, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aruba, Aruba (AUA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beef Island, British Virgin Islands (EIS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bonaire, Bonaire (BON)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bridgetown, Barbados (BGI)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cura\u00e7ao, Cura\u00e7ao (CUR)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fort de France, Martinique (FDF)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grenada, Grenada (GND)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Melville Hall, Dominica (DOM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe (PTP)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (POS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Croix Island, U.S. Virgin Islands (STX)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Kitts, Saint Kitts and Nevis (SKB)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Lucia, Saint Lucia (UVF)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Maarten, Saint Maarten (SXM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St. Thomas Island, U.S. Virgin Islands (STT)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re working around the clock to care for you on your travel journey,&#8221; the airline said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fees to change flights are waived if you bought your ticket by Jan. 2, 2026, scheduled to travel between Jan. 3-4, or can travel between January 2-9, the airline said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delta Air Lines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Delta&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.delta.com\/delta-cancels-caribbean-flights-closely-monitoring-ongoing-situation-region\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said in a statement<\/a>&nbsp;the airline began canceling flights in the Caribbean starting on early Saturday morning. The airline said it\u2019s closely monitoring the situation, but did not say which flights had been impacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Southwest Airlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.southwest.com\/travel-advisory\/?irgwc=1&amp;afsrc=1&amp;clickid=TlZxDvzIwxyKTnRzgdQYyw8qUkpV9FyJo06PSM0\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Southwest Airlines<\/a>&nbsp;have flights impacted in three Caribbean cities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aruba, Aruba (AUA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Customers can rebook or travel standby within 14 days without paying a fare difference. Refunds may be available for canceled or significantly delayed flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frontier Airlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyfrontier.com\/alert\/?mobile=true\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frontier Airlines flights<\/a>&nbsp;from five Caribbean cities have been impacted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>San Juan (SJU)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ponce (PSE)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aguadilla (BQN)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saint Martin (SXM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aruba (AUA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Change and cancellation fees are waived&nbsp;for flights from these cities. Fare differences may still apply, and canceled trips convert to travel credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spirit Airlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spirit.com\/travel-advisory\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spirit Airlines said<\/a>&nbsp;flights from five Caribbean cities have been impacted.
