Don Bacon (R-Neb.) criticized President Trump on Monday for appearing to side with Russia in its claims that Ukraine attempted a drone attack on a residence of President Vladimir Putin, accusing Moscow\u2019s leader of frequently lying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump and his team should get the facts first before assuming blame. Putin is a well known boldface liar,\u201d Bacon wrote on the social platform X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump had said he was \u201cvery angry\u201d about Russian claims that Ukraine tried to attack the presidential residence in the Novgorod region overnight with 91 long-range drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to reporters after greeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., on Monday afternoon, Trump said he had been informed of the attack by Putin during a phone call earlier in the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s one thing to be offensive. It\u2019s another thing to attack his house. It\u2019s not the right time to do any of that. \u2026 I was very angry about it,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a delicate period of time. This is not the right time,\u201d Trump added, likely referring to ongoing peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked if there\u2019s evidence of the attack, Trump replied: \u201cWell, we\u2019ll find out. You\u2019re saying maybe the attack didn\u2019t take place? That\u2019s possible, I guess, but President Putin told me this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia\u2019s claims were \u201ca complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks against Ukraine\u201d and undermine peace talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump met with Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday to discuss a proposed 20-point peace plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bacon, who is retiring at the end of this Congress, has repeatedly criticized Trump\u2019s handling of foreign policy matters, including the Russia-Ukraine war.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
