{"id":14357,"date":"2025-12-29T11:52:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T03:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=14357"},"modified":"2025-12-29T11:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T03:52:09","slug":"godfather-of-ai-says-hes-more-worried-today-about-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=14357","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Godfather\u2019 of AI says he\u2019s \u2018more worried\u2019 today about AI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"739\" height=\"494\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/88.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/88.png 739w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/88-300x201.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Geoffrey Hinton, known as the \u201cgodfather\u201d of artificial intelligence, said he\u2019s \u201cmore worried\u201d about the risks of AI today than he was two years ago, when he left his post at Google and began speaking freely about the dangers of the fast-developing technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union,\u201d Hinton addressed his broader concerns about AI, specifically the risk that the technology could outsmart humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m probably more worried,\u201d Hinton said when asked to compare his level of concern today to two years ago. \u201cIt\u2019s progressed even faster than I thought.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn particular, it\u2019s got better at doing things like reasoning and also at things like deceiving people,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pressed to expand on the concern, Hinton said, \u201cAn AI, to achieve the goals you give it, wants to stay in existence, and if it believes you\u2019re trying to get rid of it, it will make plans to deceive you, so you don\u2019t get rid of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hinton noted there are \u201ca lot of wonderful effects of AI,\u201d saying he thinks it will make health care and education better and can help address climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut along with those wonderful things come some scary things,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t think people are putting enough work into how we can mitigate those scary things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said he\u2019s concerned that, in 2026, AI will begin to have \u201cthe capabilities to replace many, many jobs,\u201d in about seven months or so, noting it can perform tasks at consistently faster speeds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geoffrey Hinton, known as the \u201cgodfather\u201d of artificial intelligence, said he\u2019s \u201cmore worried\u201d about the risks of AI today than he was two years ago, when he left his post at Google and began speaking freely about the dangers of the fast-developing technology.
