Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R), who is also now President Trump\u2019s special envoy to Greenland, said Tuesday that the Trump administration does not aim \u201cto conquer anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook, the United States has always been a welcoming party. We don\u2019t go in there trying to conquer anybody and trying to \u2014 you know \u2014 take over anybody\u2019s country. We say, \u2018Listen, we represent liberty, we represent economic strength, we represent protection,\u2019\u201d Landry told Fox News\u2019s Griff Jenkins on \u201cThe Will Cain Show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook, no one knows that better than Louisiana. My family has been in Louisiana for over 300 years. We\u2019ve lived under more flags than anyone living in the continental United States over the history of America. We ended up settling under the United States of America\u2019s flag, and for that, Louisiana has been so much better,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denmark\u2019s government responded to Trump\u2019s naming of Landry as the new special envoy to Greenland on Monday, calling it \u201ccompletely unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPresident Trump\u2019s announcement about the appointment of a special envoy to Greenland \u2013 and in particular its statements about the purpose hereby \u2013 is completely unacceptable,\u201d Danish foreign minister Lars L\u00f8kke Rasmussen said Monday in a Facebook post, which was translated by the social platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why we are now convening the US ambassador to the Department of State for a discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Landry was named by Trump on Sunday as his special envoy to Greenland, a territory owned by Denmark that Trump previously sought to acquire for the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly before President Trump\u2019s second inauguration in January, Landry backed Trump\u2019s push to acquire Greenland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
