{"id":14271,"date":"2025-12-23T11:05:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T03:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=14271"},"modified":"2025-12-23T11:05:26","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T03:05:26","slug":"trump-announces-new-class-of-golden-fleet-navy-battleships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=14271","title":{"rendered":"Trump announces new class of \u2018Golden Fleet\u2019 Navy battleships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"312\" height=\"177\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/ScreenShot_2025-12-23_105938_706.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/ScreenShot_2025-12-23_105938_706.png 312w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/ScreenShot_2025-12-23_105938_706-300x170.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 312px) 100vw, 312px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>President Trump announced on Monday a new class of battleships as part of the U.S. Navy\u2019s \u201cGolden Fleet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president said that he approved a plan for the Navy to start construction of the two battleships, which will be equipped with guns, missiles, hypersonic weapons and high-powered lasers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump trumpeted the ships as being built with \u201call steel\u201d as opposed to aluminum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump said the timeline of building the ships would be about two and a half years<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked if the new class of ships is developed to counter China, Trump said they are intended to counter \u201ceverybody.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ll be the fastest, the biggest and by far, 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built,\u201d Trump said standing alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Navy Secretary John Phelan and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a Mar-a-Lago public appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new battleships, which will anchor the \u201cGolden Fleet,\u201d will weigh more than 30,000 tons, and the military is expected to have between 20 and 25 as part of the effort to bolster the U.S. Navy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new vessels will mark an upgrade to the Navy\u2019s Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first ship in the so-called Trump-class will be the USS Defiant, which will carry a nuclear-armed, sea-launched cruise missile, according to Phelan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Navy secretary said the Defiant will be the \u201clargest, deadliest and most versatile and best looking warship anywhere on the world\u2019s oceans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, the Navy said it would commission a new class of frigates, part of the \u201cGolden Fleet,\u201d that will protect larger ships from surface vessels and fighter jets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adm.
