Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) doubled down on her criticism of President Trump in an interview on CBS\u2019s \u201c60 Minutes\u201d on Sunday, less than a month after the longtime Trump ally announced she would resign from Congress amid her public feud with the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the interview, Greene stood by the defiant stances she\u2019s taken against the president in recent months and said some of her GOP colleagues stay mum because they\u2019re \u201cterrified\u201d of publicly breaking with the president, as the Georgia congresswoman has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene addressed the rise in death threats against her and her family, saying it\u2019s clear to her that Trump\u2019s own words have contributed to the uptick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With less than a month before her self-determined departure date from Congress, Greene addressed questions about her political future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are five takeaways from Greene\u2019s \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene says Republicans in Congress make fun of Trump behind his back
The Georgia congresswoman said it would \u201cshock people\u201d to hear how her GOP colleagues talk about the president behind closed doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene said, as recently as last year, her colleagues would make fun of Trump but started \u201ckissing his ass\u201d when he won the 2024 GOP primary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBehind the scenes, do they talk differently?\u201d CBS anchor Lesley Stahl asked in the interview, which aired Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHow?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh it\u2019s, it would shock people,\u201d Greene replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, let\u2019s shock people,\u201d Stahl said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOkay. I watched many of my colleagues go from making fun of him, making fun of how he talks, making fun of me constantly for supporting him, to when he won the primary in 2024 they all started \u2014 excuse my language, Lesley \u2014 kissing his ass and decided to put on a MAGA hat for the first time,\u201d the Georgia Republican said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene says Republicans are terrified of Trump
Greene told Stahl that more Republicans don\u2019t speak out against the president when they disagree with him because they\u2019re \u201cterrified\u201d of being targeted by him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m gonna ask you about the almost solid support he has among Republicans in Congress. Is there, in that support, fear? Does the support come about because they\u2019re afraid that they\u2019ll get death threats?\u201d Stahl asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re terrified to step outta line and get a nasty Truth Social post on them. Yes,\u201d Greene responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd they\u2019re watching what happened to you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Greene replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene says Trump fueled death threats against her family
The Georgia Republican said the president\u2019s own words \u201cdirectly fueled\u201d death threats against her son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe subject line for the direct death threats on my son was his words: \u2018Marjorie Traitor Greene,\u2019\u201d Greene said, referring to the president\u2019s newfound label for the congresswoman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThose were death threats directly fueled by President Trump,\u201d Greene added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The congresswoman said she alerted the president and Vice President Vance to the death threats she was getting, and Trump, according to Greene, sent an \u201cextremely unkind\u201d response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI told him. I told JD Vance. I told them all. Sent those directly to them,\u201d Greene said. \u201cJD Vance replied back to me, \u2018We\u2019ll look into it.\u2019 I got [a] response from President Trump that I will keep private, but it wasn\u2019t very nice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stahl pressed: \u201cGive us a hint of what the president said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was extremely unkind,\u201d Greene replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene says Trump policies aren\u2019t America first
Greene also reiterated her concern that the president is too focused on his international agenda and isn\u2019t prioritizing needs of Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor an America First president, the number one focus should have been domestic policy, and it wasn\u2019t. And so, of course I was critical because those were my campaign promises. Once we fix everything here, then, fine, we\u2019ll talk to the rest of the world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene also noted that when the president labeled her a traitor was around the same time he was entertaining controversial figures in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe did this in the same time span where President Trump brought in the al Qaeda leader that was wanted by the U.S. government, who is now the president of Syria. Then within a week, he brought in the Crown Prince, MBS, who murdered an American journalist. And then he brought in the newly elected Democrat Socialist mayor of New York,\u201d she said. \u201cThat was the time span that he called me a traitor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene now describes her ideological viewpoint as \u201cAmerica first\u201d but wouldn\u2019t accept the MAGA label, when asked in the interview<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAre you MAGA?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m America first,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd that\u2019s not the same as MAGA?\u201d Stahl followed up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMAGA is President Trump\u2019s phrase,\u201d Greene said. \u201cThat\u2019s his, his political policies. I call myself America First.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut you\u2019re, you\u2019re not saying you\u2019re MAGA. That\u2019s over,\u201d Stahl said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m America first. Yep,\u201d Greene added, shaking her head no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene says she\u2019s not planning on running for president
Greene said she has no further political ambitions at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople want to know, is this a true conversion, a true change of heart? Or is it kind of a shrewd political calculation? A lot of people think you\u2019re doing it and that you, in a year or so, are going to run for some other office,\u201d Stahl asked Greene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have zero plans, zero desire to run for president. I would hate the Senate. I\u2019m not running for governor,\u201d Greene replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted people in Washington find it hard to believe that the congresswoman doesn\u2019t have a long-term plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLesley, it doesn\u2019t matter how many times I say it. I\u2019ll have face-to-face conversations with people, and I\u2019ll flat out tell them to their face, and they won\u2019t believe me. And they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh yeah, sure.\u2019 They\u2019ll wink at me, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Okay,\u2019\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
