Sen. John Fetterman\u2019s (D-Pa.) new memoir details a souring relationship between him and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D), particularly over the governor\u2019s approach to criminal justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In \u201cUnfettered,\u201d Fetterman described an \u201cugliness between us \u2014 from which we have never recovered,\u201d Axios reported. He said he saw Shapiro as someone with \u201cpolitical ambition\u201d who sought to ascend to higher office and supported his run for attorney general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was hoping Shapiro would endorse me, given what I had done for him,\u201d Fetterman wrote about his run for lieutenant governor. \u201cHe did not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fetterman wrote that in 2019, he voted to pardon brothers Dennis and Lee Horton, both in prison for 30 years for a robbery and a fatal shooting that they deny being involved in. Shapiro voted against the Hortons being pardoned. Fetterman suspected that \u201cwhat was influencing him was not mere caution but political ambition,\u201d and that \u201chesitancy was more a matter of optics and fear.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI truly believed with all my heart that nobody I ever supported for a pardon was a danger to society,\u201d Fetterman wrote, \u201cand I was willing to stake my political career on it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shapiro\u2019s vote angered Fetterman enough that he called him a \u201cf\u2014ing a\u2013hole\u201d on a hot microphone. But, as the senator wrote, he believed that \u201cShapiro did what he felt was right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shapiro is seen as a possible contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential primary. He was floated as a potential running mate for former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 before she chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
