{"id":13260,"date":"2025-10-16T10:20:25","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T02:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=13260"},"modified":"2025-10-16T10:20:31","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T02:20:31","slug":"trump-appears-to-confirm-authorizing-cia-strikes-inside-venezuela","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=13260","title":{"rendered":"Trump appears to confirm authorizing CIA strikes inside Venezuela"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"279\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/53.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/53.png 481w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/53-300x174.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>President Trump on Wednesday appeared to confirm he authorized the CIA to carry out operations in Venezuela, an escalation into his administration\u2019s targeting of authoritarian leader Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump was asked by a reporter in the Oval Office why he authorized the CIA to be able to strike inside Venezuela, to which Trump appeared to confirm the authorization and added that he was looking to expand to \u201cland\u201d strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI authorized for two reasons really, number one they have emptied their prisons into the United States of America, they came in through the border,\u201d Trump said, repeating a criticism of illegal immigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of drugs coming in from Venezuela, and a lot of drugs come in through the sea, but we\u2019re going to stop them by land also.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s comments follow reporting from The New York Times and CNN that the president authorized the CIA to expand covert operations inside Venezuela, raising the prospect of action against Maduro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump refused to answer a question about whether the CIA has authority to take out Maduro, but he indicated the action is meant to increase pressure on Caracas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think Venezuela is feeling heat. \u2026 We\u2019re not going to let our country be ruined because other people want to drop, as you say, their worst \u2026 we\u2019re not going to take them,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s one of those things, I can tell you, we\u2019ve taken care of the sea. There\u2019s nobody \u2014 and we\u2019re watching and if we see it, we\u2019ll save it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. has increased its military presence in the Caribbean Sea recently and carried out at least five strikes against what the administration alleges were speed boats smuggling drugs, killing approximately 27 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump earlier transmitted a notice to Congress that the U.S. is in an \u201carmed conflict\u201d with drug cartels designated as foreign terrorist organizations. Democrats, critical of the administration\u2019s reasoning, failed to pass a War Powers Resolution that would block the use of military force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s top aides are reportedly pushing for the U.S. to take action for regime change in Venezuela, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also serves as national security adviser, increased a reward for justice to $50 million for information leading to Maduro\u2019s arrest or conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March 2020, Maduro was charged in the Southern District of New York for narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which has jurisdiction over intervention abroad and declarations of war, warned against the president dragging the U.S. into open-ended conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI support cracking down on the cartels and traffickers.
