President Trump said Sunday he would \u201ccertainly imagine\u201d the Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating former FBI Director Christopher Wray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would imagine. I would certainly imagine. I would think they are doing that,\u201d Trump told NBC News in a phone interview when asked if the DOJ should investigate Wray, adding the former law enforcement official \u201cdid a terrible job and we just found out about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s very inappropriate what he, what he did. And, I think a lot of his service was very inappropriate. But, we haven\u2019t gone beyond that,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president\u2019s comments come days after a federal prosecutor picked by Trump brought a case against former FBI Director James Comey, accusing him of authorizing an anonymous leak to the press about an FBI investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comey, a former Republican appointed by President Obama whom Trump fired in his first term, has been charged with one count of providing a false statement to Congress and another count of obstructing a congressional proceeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former FBI director has said he is innocent and looks forward to a trial. Comey is set to be arraigned on Oct. 9 in federal court in Alexandria, Va.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has long clashed with both Comey and Wray, and appeared set on firing Wray as well before the then-FBI director preemptively resigned at the end of the Biden administration, shortly before Trump returned to office. Trump had nominated Wray to replace Comey following his firing, but has voiced regret over the pick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating Wray\u2019s resignation as \u201ca great day for America,\u201d Trump had bashed the former FBI director over the bureau\u2019s search of his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022 amid a probe into his handling of classifed materials after leaving office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump posted over the weekend attacking the former FBI chief and asserting he \u201chas some major explaining to do\u201d following a report by The Blaze that stated, without making clear their mission, that federal agents were in the crowd during the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital on Saturday that agents \u201cwere sent into a crowd control mission after the riot was declared by Metro Police\u201d while continuing to criticize the move as going \u201cagainst FBI standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also alleged \u201ccorrupt leadership\u201d had \u201clied to Congress and to the American people about what really happened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump claimed on Truth Social earlier Saturday that FBI agents were \u201cprobably acting as Agitators and Insurrectionists, but certainly not as \u2018Law Enforcement Officials.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s two in a row, Comey and Wray, who got caught LYING, with our Great Country at stake,\u201d Trump asserted. \u201cWE CAN NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN TO AMERICA AGAIN!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC noted that Wray has not publicly commented on the allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice President Vance in an interview on \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d said Comey \u201cwill have his day in court\u201d while predicting charges will be brought against other figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
