At least two people were killed and five others were injured in a shooting in Indianapolis on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indianapolis police said officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of Shore Terrace just after 2 a.m. following a report of a person shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Officers arrived and located five victims who all sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wound(s),” police said in a news release. “The officers on scene rendered aid.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of the victims were pronounced dead on the scene, and the remaining three were taken to area hospitals, according to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Subsequently, officers received a report of a person who walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound and an additional victim who walked into an area fire station, both sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wound(s),” police said. “It is believed that they both were shot in the 6800 block of Shore Terrace.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A preliminary investigation found that a disturbance had occurred before the shooting, police said. Police did not clarify the nature of the disturbance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No one was in custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police ask the public to avoid the area. The identities of the victims are pending notification of next of kin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Marion County Coroner\u2019s Office will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death,” police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shooting comes hours after another incident in which a 34-year-old man armed with a gun threatened employees at a McDonald’s on 2425 E. 38th Street. Officers responded at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday and confronted the man, which led to an officer-involved shooting, police said. The man was not struck by the gunfire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The suspect fled from the business, and officers pursued him down a nearby alley. He was safely taken into custody near 39th Street and Tacoma Avenue,” police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An uninvolved vehicle was struck by gunfire, police said, but “no uninvolved community members were injured.” Police said there was no ongoing threat to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, Chief Chris Bailey said the suspect fired a shot in the direction of two officers, but “their training brought the situation to a safe resolution.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bailey also commented on the overnight shooting incidents as a whole, saying he understands “how nights like this can shake our sense of safety.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My heart is heavy after the violence the Indianapolis community experienced over the last 24 hours,” he said. “Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and all who were impacted by the violence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bailey urged anyone with information about the overnight incidents to contact police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
