{"id":12257,"date":"2025-08-08T10:50:37","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T02:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=12257"},"modified":"2025-08-11T09:42:27","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T01:42:27","slug":"trump-signs-executive-order-targeting-debanking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/?p=12257","title":{"rendered":"Trump signs executive order targeting debanking"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"581\" src=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/4.png 770w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/4-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/tingchao.xyz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/4-768x579.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>President Trump signed Thursday an executive order taking aim at alleged discrimination against conservatives by large banks, directing regulators to investigate and punish financial institutions for \u201cpoliticized or unlawful debanking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conservatives have long complained that they have been unfairly treated by the banking system, a cause taken up by Trump in his second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFinancial institutions have engaged in unacceptable practices to restrict law-abiding individuals\u2019 and businesses\u2019 access to financial services on the basis of political or religious beliefs or lawful business activities,\u201d Thursday\u2019s order reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSuch practices are incompatible with a free society and the principle that the provision of banking services should be based on material, measurable, and justifiable risks,\u201d it continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order directs banking regulators to investigate and punish financial institutions for debanking as violations under consumer protection laws and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also calls on the Small Business Administration (SBA) to instruct the institutions it oversees to identify and reinstate any clients denied services through a \u201cpoliticized or unlawful debanking action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Banking regulators are also directed to remove \u201creputation risk\u201d from guidance used to examine financial institutions, in addition to rescinding or amending regulations that also consider reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The issue of debanking \u2014 the closure of accounts that banks consider risky, often with little notice or explanation \u2014 appears to have taken on a personal note for Trump, who said earlier this week that he was turned away from several major banks, including JPMorganChase and Bank of America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll give you me as an example,\u201d he told CNBC on Tuesday. \u201cI had hundreds of millions. I had many, many accounts loaded up with cash, loaded up with cash, and they told me, \u2018I\u2019m sorry sir, we can\u2019t have you.
