Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said in a Monday interview that he would \u201cprobably\u201d vote against President Trump\u2019s tax agenda if it means more deficit spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview on NewsNation\u2019s \u201cThe Hill,\u201d Chris Stirewalt asked the congressman \u2014 who voted reluctantly for the bill when it passed the House last month \u2014 whether he thinks he will be able to \u201cget to a yes on what comes back from the Senate,\u201d noting indications so far suggest, \u201cthis legislation is not moving in your direction.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf it\u2019s more deficit spending, then probably not. I think we need to really take that serious,\u201d Burchett told Stirewalt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Senate Finance Committee on Monday released its long-awaited version of the \u201cbig, beautiful bill,\u201d which includes provisions to make the 2017 corporate tax cuts permanent, cut hundreds of billions of dollars in Medicaid spending and phase out renewable-energy tax cuts enacted under President Biden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Senate version includes several changes to the House-passed version, including a provision to raise the debt ceiling by $5 trillion instead of the $4 trillion increase adopted by House Republicans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burchett, in the interview, suggested that the legislation \u201cwould slow the rate of growth,\u201d adding, \u201cbut it\u2019s still growing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
