As many Americans, including President Donald Trump, celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary<\/a> on June 14, others will hit the streets in protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 1,000 communities across the country have planned for a “No Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance” <\/a>to reject what event organizers are calling “corrupt, authoritarian politics in the United States.” More specifically, the “spectacle”<\/a> that is Trump’s military parade, the group has called a “made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of the “No Kings” marches, rallies and demonstrations were deliberately organized to coincide with the Army’s\u00a0“Grand Military Parade and Celebration<\/a>, which also falls on Trump\u2019s 79th birthday and Flag Day. Administration officials insist it is a coincidence that the parade falls on Trump’s birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Instead of allowing this birthday parade to be the center of gravity, we will make action everywhere else the story of America that day: people coming together in communities across the country to reject strongman politics and corruption,” according to a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0posted on the official “No Kings” event website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The “No Kings” demonstrations are expected to be the largest and most numerous protests since Trump’s second term began, dwarfing the Hands Off! protests in early April<\/a> that drew as many as 1 million Americans to the streets at more than 1,000 rallies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They\u2019ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services,” reads a statement from the official “No Kings” event website. “The corruption has gone too. far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
